Colin Read
Coming from a narrative fiction background, he obtained his MFA in creative writing at NYU before jumping fully into the world of skateboard filmmaking. While working as a touring videographer and editor for magazines and skate companies, he meanwhile directed several full-length independent skateboarding films. His films “Tengu: God of Mischief” (2013) and “Spirit Quest” (2016) both landed Best-of-the-Year awards throughout the skateboarding media landscape; the buzz around “Spirit Quest” attracted attention outside of skating, leading to new commercial work.
His work has been shown by venues such as MoMA, the Hammer Museum, and the Guggenheim; regularly earns Vimeo Staff Picks; and has been decorated by institutions including the Clios, the MTV VMAs, the UKMVAs, the Berlin Commercial Awards, and the Vimeo Awards.
He is in development for his debut narrative feature film, in addition to further narrative projects.
